Zayd Kathrada (4 months)

Zayd Kathrada (4 months)

Our baby Zayd has been following the Baby Love method for 2 months now, and Mariam and I are delighted with his progress. This is our story.

As a GP, I was often puzzled when patients brought obviously healthy babies to me insisting that something was wrong with their babies. That all changed when my wife Mariam gave birth to our first born, a little boy who we named Zayd.

Within a week of being home (which was her parents house initially), I could identify with my patients. Zayd was miserable and irritable all the time. He never slept for more than 45 minutes at a time, and putting him off to sleep would take hours! Mariam’s 92 year old grandmother even remarked that she had not seen a more troubled child.

Paediatrician, priests and chiropractors were consulted, all of whom could provide basic tips that did assist us a little. Colic was ruled out; no medical problems could be found, yet Zayd never slept more than 12 hours a day in those first 4 months of his life. Zayd would cry if he was not carried all the time. Mariam and I would take 30 minute turns trying to rock him to sleep at night, starting from 7pm and often succeeding only at 11pm. We tried the pram, rocking chair and even sleeping with us; all of which were futile.

That was when Mariam reminded me about something we had considered when Zayd was less than 2 months old – BABY LOVE. We had ruled it out as we had a preconceived notion that it would require sleep training, which we believed was “cruel”. However it was obvious to us that Zayd was not thriving, and we were willing to try anything. Mariam contacted Cynthia Fourie who, sensing our distress, gave us an appointment within a week.

Cynthia educated us on children’s sleep routines and the way it affected them if they did not get quality of sleep. Despite having a medical background, most of the information provided was new to me. We decided to implement the method immediately. The first sleep was really heart wrenching and we began to doubt ourselves, but at his next sleep Zayd slept continuously from 7h30pm to 6am! Within 3 days, he was sleeping 15 hours a day with minimal fussing; the recommended amount for his age.

Now Zayd has just turned 6 months. He is an absolute joy, and family members are amazed at the transformation in him. He almost never cries, is very active, and sleeps by himself. He is teething at the moment, but with slight adapting of the routine, he remains a very happy child. I can’t recommend Baby Love enough. It has changed our lives and more importantly, Zayd is healthy and happy.

Thanks Cynthia and Jacqui for assisting us in implementing this wonderful program.
