Matthew Gomes (10 months)

Matthew Gomes (10 months)

When Matthew reached 10 months old and was waking between 5-6 times a night I felt like I was going to go crazy. Matt would cry and I would go and comfort him or breast feed him till he fell asleep, whichever took the least amount of time as I was exhausted.

This obviously led to him not being able to put himself to sleep, so each time he woke I would have to come back and rock or feed him again. I remember being so tired that I would hear him cry but my body would not move out of bed to go to him. After 10 months of not much sleep and the start of fighting between my husband and I, I finally called Baby Love as a last resort.

I always said that I would never let my baby cry till he fell asleep. I had been told by one professional that it causes trust issues later in life, and I thought that it was cruel and tried to find a "better" way of getting him to sleep through the night. I tried a few other alternatives, read a lot of books and spoke to a lot of friends who were also going through the same thing. I only wish I had done the Baby Love program first.

When Jacqui came to see us and told us how the program worked I was terrified of letting my baby cry himself to sleep, and after Jacqui left I cried for the rest of the day in anticipation of what was to come. The first few days on the program were difficult but not as bad as I thought, and by the 3rd night and a lot of support from my husband, Matthew was sleeping through!!

We stuck to the program and wrote down all his sleep and feed times for the first 3 weeks. We stayed home so that he could get used to the new routine and let it settle in.

Now when we go out we put him in his pram and he sleeps, where before he wouldn't sleep when we were out and the result was a grumpy baby and frustrated parents. We also found it difficult to go out at night as he woke so often that we needed to be there when he woke to put him back to sleep. Now we make sure he is sleeping before we leave and the babysitter has the easiest job in the world!

I still woke during the night for a while afterwards, but now my husband and I get a full nights sleep and Matt wakes between 6am and 6:30am every morning. He is such a happy baby now that there is a set routine of how he falls asleep, and he also gets much needed continuous sleep.

Many of my friends that were going through the same thing with their babies have tried the Baby Love program and have had the same wonderful results.

Thank you Jacqui and Baby Love
